American F-16 aircraft will be serviced at the Military Aviation Works in Bydgoszcz. The value of the 10-year contract is estimated at $365 million.
There were 2 competitors in the tender for the maintenance of multi-role machines for the US Air Force – the Belgian company Sabca and a consortium consisting of WZL, cooperators from the Netherlands and the USA. And it was the offer of this group that was deemed more favorable by the US Air Force.
For the company from Bydgoszcz, this is a great success – the contract will provide significant source of income for 10 years and access to advanced technologies. As part of the service conducted in Bydgoszcz, American F-16 aircraft will undergo major overhauls significantly extending their service life.
Military Aviation Works No. 2 has been servicing Polish F-16 aircraft since 2013 Initially, the maintenance was limited only to repainting the machines. However, the scope of competence in cooperation with Lockheed Martin was gradually expanded, reaching a level that allows for comprehensive overhauls and technologically advanced service of modern military aircraft.
Previously, the Bydgoszcz aviation works specialized mainly in servicing post-Soviet military aircraft such as Su-22 and Su-7. These types of machines will still be part of the equipment of the Polish Air Force for many years to come. Therefore, their maintenance will continue to be carried out in Bydgoszcz in parallel with the F-16 service.
