Rother’s Mills will have a new permanent exhibition. This time, we will experiment!

Exhibitions at Rother’s Mills always attract a large audience, partly because they often present historical events through a new perspective: modernity. Another example of such an approach to art exhibitions will be an initiative that invites all visitors to experiment together.

The new permanent exhibition at Rother’s Mills will have an interactive character. The team working at this institution is currently working intensively on the “Mill-Machine” exhibition. This interactive project is also supported by a company that has previously implemented renowned and award-winning projects for the Museum of the Second World War in Gdansk and the European Solidarity Centre in Gdansk.

Interactive museum at Rother’s Mills

We learned about what we will be able to see and do at the exhibition called “Mill-Machine” during this year’s Museum Night. This exhibition will be interactive thanks to workstations for independent experimentation. Additionally, we will find numerous multimedia materials and stations that will immerse us in the project itself. The exhibition will tell us about physical phenomena, laws of physics, and devices operating in mills. We will follow the processes that allow us to convert grains into flour, and often we will be able to participate in this process ourselves.

In an interview with Express Bydgoski, Sylwia Mularczyk, Deputy Head of the Program Department for Exhibitions and Educational Offer, emphasized the importance of showcasing the character and history of the place where visitors will find themselves. The exhibition will include content for both children and adults from Bydgoszcz. The visit itself will be possible individually or in groups, depending on our preference.

When will the “Mill Machine” exhibition open?

– By using muscle force, we will set machines in motion, which, similar to what happened in the old Rother’s Mill, constitute a system of interconnected vessels, where the operation of one is a result of the operation of another. Taking on the roles of constructors, engineers, mill workers, architects, or explorers, we will experiment: transport, weigh, store, clean, grind, crush, sort, sift, pack, store… All to understand what forces, power, work, energy, mass, and friction are – explain the employees of Rother’s Mills.

When will we be able to participate in this new, interactive permanent exhibition? The opening of the exhibition entitled “Mill-Machine” is planned for the second half of the current year, 2023. This investment cost nearly five million złoty and was co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund. The funds were obtained within the framework of the “Development of endogenous potential of the region of the Regional Operational Programme of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Voivodeship” for the years 2014-2020.
