The whole of Poland is discussing the recent reports about an object that landed near Bydgoszcz in mid-December. It has been almost certain that the mysterious object was a Russian rocket. Furthermore, this rocket had the capability of carrying nuclear weapons. It is therefore not surprising that in recent days, after the revelation of this fact, public opinion is focused on the incident near Bydgoszcz.
The situation is not helped by the fact that several bizarre incidents occurred around it. A random walker stumbled upon the object in the forest in Zamość. What is most puzzling is that the rocket was found only in April, even though it was supposed to have fallen several months earlier. For these few months, authorities were unable to locate the sizable projectile that flew halfway across Poland from Belarus and threatened the lives of citizens. This story exposed the weak points of our defense system and initiated a lengthy discussion about possible neglect in procedures.
Mysterious Military Object in Zamość
Although the rocket reached Poland in mid-December, it was only found in April. And it was not found by the military or sappers. On April 24, a woman who went for a horseback ride in the forest stumbled upon the “military object.”
At the very beginning, it was difficult to determine what this object was. Local journalists received conflicting information from residents. Speculations arose that it was barrels of chemicals, a military rocket, or a Russian drone. There was also prolonged debate about when the rocket crash occurred near Zamość. There were no alerts, the mayor knew nothing. Crisis management was the same. The police from the Nakło nad Notecią County Police Headquarters were the first to arrive at the scene. And for a long time, neither they nor the Military Gendarmerie wanted to provide any information.
There were several theories. The incident was linked to the fact that the Toruń firing range, specifically the Training Center of the Artillery and Armament Training Center, is located near Zamość. As the local portal naklo24.pl reports, a woman who went for a horseback ride in the forest found it. Initially, local journalists received conflicting information from residents. Speculations arose that it was barrels of chemicals, a military rocket, or a Russian drone. The date when the “military object” fell in the forest also remains unclear. Gen. Roman Polko pointed out in an interview with the natemat.pl portal that the Polish army still has missiles of Soviet production, and “cleaning out warehouses often involves training, during which equipment is disposed of.” This strongly indicated that the rocket may have been launched during exercises.
