A resident of Bydgoszcz becomes the new editor-in-chief of “Newsweek”.

Tomasz Sekielski is set to become the new editor-in-chief of the Polish edition of “Newsweek” starting from July. The Bydgoszcz native will replace Tomasz Lis in this position.

Lis bid farewell to readers with a widely discussed and controversial column in which he stated, among other things, that there are no longer free media in Poland. The appointment of his successor was met with enthusiasm by both the authorities of Ringier Axel Springer Polska and the editorial team.

From Radio to TVN

Born in 1974, Tomasz Sekielski is a radio and television journalist, author of acclaimed documentary films, and also a novelist (sensational books and thrillers). He began his career at the Bydgoszcz radio station VOX (previously he had run a school radio station in a technical high school), from which he moved to radio Wawa, and later to Radio dla Ciebie. He began to achieve his first significant successes as a reporter for “Fakty” TVN, covering events such as the war in Kosovo or the work of the Rywin Commission. He also hosted programs such as “Kropka nad i” and “100 days of the Prime Minister.” He also collaborated with Andrzej Morozowski, which resulted in the disclosure of material that sparked the so-called “Tape Affair” in 2006. He left TVN in 2012.

Conspiracy Theories

From 2012 to 2015, Sekielski hosted broadcasts on Tok FM radio, and in the years 2010-2011 and 2013, he worked for the weekly magazine “Wprost”. After a short-lived adventure with the program “Teraz ja!” on Nowa TV, he created a series called “Conspiracy Theory,” in which he investigated cases such as the suicide of Andrzej Lepper. In 2018, he launched his channel on YouTube.

Tylko nie mów nikomu” (“Tell No One”)

In 2019, Tomasz Sekielski’s documentary film “Tylko nie mów nikomu” (“Tell No One”) caused a significant stir. It revealed the phenomenon of molesting and abusing children by Catholic priests. Following its premiere, statements on this issue were issued by Primate Wojciech Polak and Archbishop Stanisław Gądecki. The Sekielski brothers’ second prominent film on pedophilia in the Catholic Church was “Tylko nie mów nikomu” (“Tell No One”).

Awards and Personal Life

Tomasz Sekielski has been the recipient of numerous awards, including the Grand Press and the Polish Film Award Eagle for “Tylko nie mów nikomu” (“Tell No One”).

Tomasz Sekielski is married to Anna and has two children – Julia and Łukasz.
