The reconstruction of Kościelecki Square will begin in the summer. In its new version, there will be more greenery in this place than currently.
The square obtained its current form in the mid-70s when the bus station was moved to Jagiellońska Street. The previous reconstruction involved creating rectangular fields filled with greenery, separated by alleys and concrete walls.
The City Hall planned the reconstruction of the square several years ago, with the main theme being the removal of concrete from this area. However, the investment was in doubt as potential contractors proposed prices that greatly exceeded the planned budget of 5.5 million złoty. Meanwhile, construction companies’ offers ranged around 15 million złoty.
After difficult negotiations, a compromise was finally reached at the level of 9.2 million złoty.
In this situation, the construction will be possible in the summer of this year. As part of the renovation, concrete structures will be demolished, increasing the biologically active area, and paved alleys crossing the green area will be replaced with gravel. Meanwhile, the surrounding sidewalks will receive an elegant, granite surface. Chestnut trees that have been growing on the square since the beginning of the 20th century will remain in place.
The implementation of the investment will take about a year.
