The whole of Poland is discussing the latest reports regarding the object that landed near Bydgoszcz in mid-December. It has been almost confirmed that the mysterious object was a Russian missile, which also had the capability to carry nuclear weapons. It is not surprising that in the past few days, after this fact was revealed, the public’s attention has been focused on the incident near Bydgoszcz.
The situation is not helped by the fact that several bizarre incidents have occurred around it. The missile was discovered by a random walker in a forest in Zamość. What is most puzzling is that the missile was found in April, even though it was supposed to have fallen several months earlier. For those few months, the authorities were unable to locate the large projectile that flew halfway across Poland from Belarus and posed a threat to the lives of citizens. This incident has exposed the weaknesses in our defense system and sparked a lengthy discussion about possible negligence in procedures.
Mysterious Military Object in Zamość
Although the missile reached Poland in mid-December, it was only discovered in April. And it was not found by the military or sappers. On April 24th, a woman who went for a horseback ride in the forest stumbled upon the “military object.”
At first, it was difficult to determine what this object was. Local journalists received conflicting information from residents. Speculations arose that it could be barrels of chemicals, a military missile, or a Russian drone. There was also a long debate about when the rocket could have crashed near Zamość. There were no alerts, the mayor knew nothing. The crisis management was the same. The police from the Nakło nad Notecią County Police Headquarters were the first to arrive at the scene. For a long time, neither them nor the Military Gendarmerie wanted to provide any information.
There were several theories. The incident was linked to the fact that the Toruń training ground, specifically the Training Center of the Artillery and Armaments, is located near Zamość. As reported by the local portal naklo24.pl, the object was found by a woman who went for a horseback ride in the forest. Initially, local journalists received conflicting information from residents. Speculations arose that it could be barrels of chemicals, a military missile, or a Russian drone. The date when the “military object” fell in the forest also remains unclear. Gen. Roman Polko remarked in an interview with the natemat.pl portal that the Polish army still possesses missiles of Soviet production and “cleaning up warehouses often involves training during which equipment is disposed of.” Therefore, many indications suggested that the missile may have been fired during exercises.
